• Daley happy to add silver after gold in Sheffield world event
"One of Britain's best hopes for Olympic gold in Beijing prospered again in Sheffield yesterday. Having won gold with Blake Aldridge in Saturday's 10 metre platform synchro at the World Series event at Ponds Forge, Tom Daley took a silver medal in yesterday's individual 10m platform competition.
The 14-year-old scraped through to the last spot for the final, 0.7 points ahead of one of the Americans he had beaten into second place on Saturday, David Alasdair Boudia.
Daley then set the standard for an exciting final with nines across the board, but slipped back having over-rotated on his inward three-and-a-half somersaults dive. He fought his way back into the silver medal position, producing hardly a ripple in the water on his fifth-round dive, the back three-and-a-half somersaults.
China's Huo Laing retained his gold medal position, while Daley just managed to stave off pressure from a team-mate, Peter Waterfield, as they took silver and bronze respectively. Cuba's Jeinkler Aguirre finished in fourth place.
"There are a lot of tweaks I need to make for my next competition but this is all a learning curve," said Daley. "I'm really excited about this year and this has been another stepping stone." [

• Daley claims landmark diving gold
Tom Daley and Blake Aldridge claimed a first-ever gold for Britain at the Fina Diving World Series to stake their claim for a place at the Olympics.
The duo won the 10m platform synchronised title, scoring a perfect 10 for their second dive in Sheffield.
Daley, 14, has been selected for the individual diving event in Beijing but the pair are vying with Pete Waterfield and Leon Taylor for the synchro spot.
"That was a really good performance, the best we've ever done," said Daley.
"It was a close final with some superb diving and plenty of drama. I'm pleased with the way we held it together."
Aldridge added: "When you're up there on the board you have to stay composed and focused on the job at hand.
"That was hard to do today because of the great support we got from the home crowd. I'm delighted with the way we dived and, of course, winning the gold." [

• High-board hero Tom Daley looks to build on his Sheffield success
"Tom Daley was 13 years, ten months and three days old when he became the youngest European diving champion in history, off the ten-metre platform in March. Having turned 14 on Wednesday, the youngest member of the Great Britain Olympic squad is ready to take on a tougher challenge this weekend in Sheffield, where he will face the cream of China's gold-medal challengers in the second round of the Diving World Series.
The Plymouth schoolboy will compete against Zhou Lu Xin and Lin Yue, the Chinese divers aiming to win gold at a home Games this summer off the ten-metre high board from which Daley leapt to continental success in Eindhoven in March.
The teenager will then join Blake Aldridge, 26, from Southampton, in the ten-metre synchronised event in which the pair have been working hard to gain the status of Olympic medal prospects since November last year, when they defeated Pete Waterfield and Leon Taylor, the British synchronised diving Olympic silver medal-winners, at an event in Canada."
